If you or a loved one is unfortunate enough to suffer a severe injury, such as a brain injury, getting the right level of support and advice in relation to care and support will be a  vital part of the recovery and rehabilitation process.

Brain injury case managers are professionals who specialise in coordinating care, rehabilitative treatment and other support for people with brain injuries. They may come from different backgrounds such as: nursing, social work, occupational therapy and physiotherapy. But they all have one thing in common – the wellbeing and welfare of clients with complex, clinical needs.

Case managers work hard to facilitate individuals’ independence and improve their quality of life while acknowledging and managing potential safety issues. They might help clients access help with everyday tasks or get them out and about and doing things they enjoy in the community.

At Hyphen Law, we work with specialist brain injury case managers to enable our clients to have access to the care and support they need, especially during those vital early stages of the claims process.  We do this by working closely with our clients’ litigation solicitors to secure interim payments to fund the essential care and treatment that the case managers and experts recommend, so that our clients receive the maximum benefit.

After the litigation is concluded we continue to work in partnership with case managers to assess the needs of brain injured clients and their families and develop an effective plan of action for all. This plan will include advice, support, and advocacy for the individual and the family as well as rehabilitation goals.

A good case management plan meets the needs of clients and their families by identifying and securing the most appropriate and cost effective resources available to make a significant, positive difference in their lives. For many clients, it will be the first time they have benefited from this kind of holistic approach.

Support for brain injury case managers

The British Association of Brain Injury Case Managers (BABICM) was established in 1996 to promote the development of case management as a profession in the field of acquired brain injury.

It seeks to encourage high standards in training for case managers and promote networking and communication to increase knowledge, skills and techniques to effectively manage and support people with brain injuries, or other complex conditions, and their families.

This week, Hyphen Law was proud to be able to contribute by way of sponsorship to the BABICM 2015 summer conference on 17-18th of June at the NEC Birmingham. This year’s event was focussed on addressing the key legal issues that today’s brain injury case managers face as well as discussing current hot topics on rehabilitation.

It was an interesting and informative event and we were able to participate and contribute our legal expertise to the debates. It was also a great opportunity to meet with the brain injury case managers and other support professionals.
