Tom specialises in Court of Protection work together with the creation and administration of personal injury trusts. He also has a growing reputation for securing statutory funding towards the cost of care, both from Local Authorities and the NHS.
The majority of Tom’s clients have experienced catastrophic head injuries but he also acts for an increasing number of clients experiencing capacity issues as a result of other medical issues, such as dementia. Tom is highly experienced in dealing with the day to day affairs of those requiring support from a deputy. He also regularly prepares complex applications to the Court of Protection for a wide variety of issues including statutory wills and seeking authority for the purchase of property abroad.
Tom is highly personable and has developed a reputation for building strong relationships with his clients, their families and wider support networks.
Tom has a background in private client work which qualifies him to advise on a wide range of the legal issues relevant to his clients, including the preparation of Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney.
Tom has a comprehensive understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the importance of judging capacity on a decision by decision basis. Tom has excellent interpersonal skills and is used to dealing with sensitive subjects in a professional yet courteous manner.
Tom is an affiliate member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners having successfully completed the Advanced Certificate in Will Preparation in November 2013.
