The Brain Injury Hub have released some great tips on how to be safe whilst carrying out favourite winter sports such as skiing, snowboarding and ice skating.

After seeing several sporting head injuries last year it is no surprise that the first tip is to wear a properly fitted helmet. This is great advice and should be followed in any sport or activity that has the risk of a head injury.

Another big tip is to also be aware of the warning signs for concussion. It is important to not only being able to recognise any symptoms for yourself but to also be able to recognise them if someone else has had an accident. Remember that symptoms can occur days or even weeks after a fall. 

Symptoms can include;

  • Poor coordination or balance

  • Slurred speech

  • Nausea and/or vomiting

Remember to have fun but to stay safe!
