P was involved in a road traffic accident when he was 16 years old. Find out how we helped him get his life back on track.
As a consequence of the accident, P sustained a severe brain injury which required him to spend a substantial amount of time in hospital and a rehabilitation unit. P‘s Litigation Solicitor is pursuing a substantial claim on his behalf but a Deputy was required in order to administer the interim payments needed to purchase and adapt a new home for him.
A Hyphen lawyer was appointed to act as Deputy for P and she has worked closely with the independent Litigation Lawyer to apply those interim payments for P’s benefit. The Deputy has purchased a house for P and overseen its adaptation liaising closely with the Litigation Lawyer, Case Manager and Architects throughout the project as well as with P and his family in relation to furnishing the property for day to day needs and therapy. The Deputy has also worked closely with the Case Manager in relation to the recruitment of a care team and the introduction of house policy including the management of household finances.
P is able to manage a weekly allowance and the Deputy has worked with him to ensure that this is done in a way which is safe but gives P responsibility and a sense of self esteem.
The Deputy has also arranged for the purchase of all of the equipment needed to support P in his new home and in the community including a specially adapted vehicle.
This has all been undertaken during a time when P found the transition from care to independent living a challenging and sometimes frightening experience.
The Hyphen Deputy and her team have supported P through all of these changes working closely with the wider network of professionals that support P on a day to day basis.
